Christmas? Xmas? Holiday? Or what?
So what does the FSM call Christmas? Seeings how CHRISTmas is a Christian holiday. I usually write Xmas, cuz I'm not about to miss out on gift getting, and giving of course!
Xmas is a wonderful family time of year for me and mine, even without the nativity scenes and going to the church at midnight. Although I think I may just try that out this year, as people seem to get plenty pissed (drunken, not angry sense).. probably because the sermon is boring otherwise. So I will booze it up on mulled wine with the family on Xmas eve, then join my religious relatives in their tradition at the local church here in England.
Is anyone else here up for religious experiences? I was raised in the Mormon religion, but am now a scientist who lives in reality. However! I still like exploring different religious traditions.

I guess there are a lot options:
Spaghettimas
Pastamas
Mithrasmas
Winter Solstice (Summer Solstice for those fond of kangaroos)
Turkey Harvest Festival
New Year's Rehearsal
What name would you like to give it?

If it looks like a spaghetti monster, and flies like a spaghetti monster, we have at least to consider the possibility that we have a multi-appendaged pastadeity on our hands.

Holiday is quite boring though. I suggest that we petition the spaghetti monster to get the name changed to something more enlightening. Pastamas seems to me an improvement - a celebration of the birth of pasta - but I'm sure the collective wit of the Pastafarian community can come up with something better.

In one of the E-cards on the main page it's called Chrifsmas.

I know for me, I have a Christmas Tree, a Menorah, and New England Patriots decorations hanging this time of year (well, ok, the Pats stuff is up all year long).
Does anyone know Bobby's birthday? If he won't tell us (and I hope he don't) we could move that to Dec 25th.
Happy Bobbymas everyone.

A related question - a friend asked me this in the pub and I couldn't answer:
What place does Santa have in regards to our festival of Holiday?

jekka wrote:i just don't like the "Xmas", i really can't find the reason people do it, is our culture just obssessed with X's? (wow, that's fun to pluralize) because i mean really does ecks-mas sound at al like christ-mas. that's just my two-cents
"Xmas" really pushes the buttons of (usually) ignorant Christianists. It is not, however, necessarily an insult. Many of the oldest Christian writings are in Greek, where Chi Rho (looks like PX in English) are the first two letters of Christ in Greek (not a middle name, it means anointed). Stacking them made a pleasing symbol, eventually abbreviated to "X". That spelling is convenient in contemporary English for implying secular rather than religious elements of the holiday, but it still is not the work of the debbil. Hope that helps, jekka.
I will honor Monkey in my heart, and try to keep it all the year.
