military religious freedom

Postby caseymarc4 » Fri Aug 04, 2006 12:39 pm

check out this website: Mikey Weinstein, the founder (and my dad) is fighting the religious right's attempted (and largely successful to this point) penetration of the military's hierarchy. It's a despicable situation that my dad and I have worked hard (with a good amount of success) to remedy. Check the media section and 'about the foundation' for info on his book, which comes out soon.

and, of course, long life the FSM!

 (saluting FSM:)

One, your link is broke.
Two, How has religion taken over my beloved military? I am confused and distrought that combat soldiers may need some kind of religious help to get them through combat!

Curse those Chaplins! Curse them I say!

Actually, just north of where I live, there is a widow trying to fight to get Wiccan recognized as a religion. Her husband was Wiccan, he was killed in battle, and on the memorial built, there is an empty space where her husband's name should be. She wants a pentagram put up, in recognition of his faith, but the military will not allow it.

Thats strange, because the military does have wiccan chaplins.

There is not a single Wiccan, Neopagan, or Shamanic Chaplain in the military.

And work needs to be done to ensure that everyones religion (or lack thereof) gets treated fairly in the Military.

I think The Animals said it best in regards to religion in the military.
He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He's there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man
Sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He smiles at the young soldiers
Tells them its all right
He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight
Soon there'll be blood and many will die
Mothers and fathers back home they will cry
Sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile
The order is given
They move down the line
But he's still behind and he'll meditate
But it won't stop the bleeding or ease the hate
As the young men move out into the battle zone
He feels good, with God you're never alone
He feels tired and he lays on his bed
Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said
Sky Pilot
How high can you fly

You'll never, never, never reach the sky
You're soldiers of God you must understand
The fate of your country is in your young hands
May God give you strength
Do your job real well
If it all was worth it
Only time it will tell

In the morning they return
With tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies
A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot
Remembers the words
"Thou shalt not kill"
Sky pilot
How high can you fly
You never, never, never reach the sky

Am I allowed to advertise my band? 'Cause like, we're awesome and all that stuff.

Internationally Acclaimed makes the girlies go *scream*.

No, we actually don't, but we rock anyway.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and I have a new project. The Japanese Tapdancing Brigade. It's just as awesome, but in a different style.

Baby's good to me, you know
She's happy as can be, you know, she said so
I'm in love with her and I feel fine

Here is one from a former Army Recruiter:

Join the U.S. Army and be Army Strong!

Now if you go to a recruiter and use my name, I get a $2,000.00 bonus so if anyone actually does want to join, chat me up ;)

--I recruited for three years and only escaped.. I mean transferred out of that duty a year ago.
