A revelation in the field of pirating

I was watching the Mythbusters Pirate Special (please no "I love Kari" posting, because she's already mine, and I don't need all of you squabbling over her) and it appears that pirates only wear eyepatches, not because they are missing eyes, but because in event of boarding another ship/being boarded, they can go from light to dark areas without having to adjust.

Example: It was noight toime aboard me ship the seaworthy Full As A Boot. Oi was takin' a small piratenap in me well-lit cabin when, with a thunderous BOOM! A cannonball rocketed through me quarters. Hurriedly, oi shouted out to me men, "AArrgh, mateys! we is bein' boarded! All hands to battle stations! We be livin' to foight anoother day!" and rushed oot into the dark. Oi shifted me eye patch to the other soide, enabling me to see in the dark, and charged onto the deck, cutlass drawn, and charged at the scurvy dogs who did dare to board me ship.

Hey, that was fun. I really got into the spirit of things, I reckon.

Arrrr...so ye be sayin that a Pirate has a ready 'Dark Adapted Eye' under his patch. I'll ave ta try it out meself.

Popeye never uses an eye patch...he jus' keps a squinty wid his right eye , maybe he being preparing for night raids the whole time...ARGH!
