Last post of I wish I could. I have barely enough gas to get to work, though, and thus my social life is destroyed.

Thanks.
I have to write some letters for history class, pretending I'm a soldier in the Great War.

I've got a story for you.
I was on holiday in France, the Beautiful Dordogne near Riberac. We were staying at a colleague's holiday home 'La Basse Ecurie' (The lower stable). The place was really old and it was part of a tiny little hamlet that had been deserted since the 1960s. Although the main house had all mod cons, the out buildings hadn't been touched since the original inhabitants had left. There was a large barn with a manger and a complete set of farming tools and machinery and next to that a very small barn. I went into the small barn and there were old shoes and stuff scattered about on the floor. As I nosed about I began to find old letters. I can read French reasonably well (although I've got rusty since then) and the letters turned out to be from a French soldier at the front in World War One. They were heart rending because they were written to the soldiers wife who must have been struggling to keep the farm going. There were a number of letters which are now gathered safely together in a box in the house. Sadly the soldier shared the fate of many of his comrades and his name is on the tiny war memorial in the nearby village of Festalemps.
The smoke wafted gently in the breeze across the poop deck and all seemed right in the world.
