Re: The New Convert Thread - MAKE YOUR FIRST POST HERE
Greetings fellow Pastafarians -
Although I have been aware of the Flying Spaghetti Monster since shortly the great prophet Bobby Henderson revealed him to the world at large, I have only recently devoted myself to the teachings of the FSM.
I came here to offer my humble tribute. In the art section, I have posted a link to a larger version of my avatar. I hope you will enjoy it.
May the blessings of his noodly appendage be upon you all.

mvfu1uk,
I've got my view at Unicode(UTF-8) and have no problems seeing characters as they are meant. Most of us are either brain-challenged zombies right now, or scurvy riddled pirates, or both, so I doubt we'll be much help with the behind the scenes technical mumbo jumbo.

I haven't a clue what UTF-8 is.
Someone will help ye shortly.
I suppose I shouldn't call ye short .

As a new convert, you probably aren’t aware that the accepted method of requesting assistance from the congregation with a specific problem is to create a thread in the appropriate forum and politely state your issue ... and then cringe in horror as it is degenerates into a cesspool of innuendo, bathroom humor, and Nef Yoo abuse.
Sigh. I remember the good old days when we had a Science section that was current and worthwhile.

mvfu1uk wrote:Some places in these postings, where I would expect to see an apostrophe most likely, I see instead a letter "a" with an acute accent, followed by a euro sign, then a trademark sign. What character mapping am I supposed to set my browser at to read what's here? Can't the headers give the right mapping so my browser will set itself correctly without my intervention? Why can't everyone just use UTF-8?
Huh?? Just go with the flow dude, otherwise we will eats your brains.
Welcome anyway.

No, the problem is that your computer/browser doesn't support Microsoft symbols, or something like that. It's ridiculous, I know. It happens to me sometimes on other sites.
Best option is just to stick it out.

Nice to meet you, Vezon. Welcome to the forums. (Watch out for the zombies, they're all over the place)

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."
