"Mit der Dummheit kämpfen Götter selbst vergebens."
("Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain.")
-- Friedrich Schiller (1759–1805)
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.
-- Philip K Dick
What happens when all the renewable energy runs out?

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

"How is it that hardly any major religion has looked at science and concluded, 'This is better than we thought! The Universe is much bigger than our prophets said, grander, more subtle, more elegant. God must be even greater than we dreamed'? Instead they say, 'No, no, no! My god is a little god, and I want him to stay that way.'" - Carl Sagan

Fox News has a section called 'Bias Bash' (yes, totally without irony). This week - Why Edward Snowden is a dirty commie.
Argument no 1 - Henry David Thoreau stayed in the US without paying poll tax. Thoreau spent 1 night in jail compared to the probable life sentence Snowden would face as Bradley Manning may well do (having already experienced solitary confinement for almost a year and may well do for a long time to come).
To be honest, I gave up watching the video after that point but I'm sure there are more funny things in there

Man bailed for fraud in school. Still, letting anyone set up a school and reducing local authority oversight is a great idea

Got a friend request on flamebook from a co-worker's husband. Here's his profile picture, with their little boy on Halloween.

I like this guy.

It's so you can watch Michael Gove falling over.
Over and over again.

I wonder if there's a way to put that on the school plasma screen displays
