Re: Logic, IQ, and Lateral Thinking Problems.
Ok, since I clearly remember having posted a corrected puzzle (right before the fora went down), it seems clear that in the course of fixing our recent forum problem that we lost at least a half a day's posts.
*sigh* ah well, it happens.
Ok, let me repost the correction I posted a few days ago, and we'll give the puzzle another 24 hrs before I post the solution.

Erroneous puzzle: 11+3/4^4+38*5+17-12
Corrected puzzle: 11+3/4^4+1*5+53-12

As long as we're waiting for an answer, did anyone else enjoy the family resemblance I spotlighted in my puzzle ?

Re: Logic, IQ, and Lateral Thinking Problems.
Ah, to heck with waiting ... I'm bored, and the forum outtage (and my embarassing goof) already stretched this out longer than intended.
The original problem went belly up when I erroneously carried a 42 forward as 4 (same place ET's solution blew up).
SOLUTION REVISED:
11+3/4^4+1*5+53-12
Replace blasphemous primes
12+4/4^4+1*6+54-12
Addition first ...
16/4^5*60-12
Subtraction next ...
16/4^5*48
Exponentials next ...
16/1024*48
Division next ...
illegal(0.015625)*48
Multiplication next ...
illegal(0.75)
Rewrite banned decimals using permitted operands
3/4
Replace blasphemous prime
4/4
Division
1
Misdirection earlier ... the original solution is intact.
Retroactive credit to ET for closest answer.

Re: Logic, IQ, and Lateral Thinking Problems.
Ok, I'm bored, so I guess I'll go again.
Some math majors are sitting in a pub near their campus in Lisbon. The gender mix is 5 men and 1 woman. Tired of listing to the men chatter about sports, the female student suddenly spoke up.
"Ok, Guys ... what's your favorite number ?".
After a brief moment of silence the first man said "73", causing several nods of agreement. The second man said "Googleplex", causing several more nods of agreement. The fourth man said "3.14159 ..." and everyone present joined the chorus repeating the next 20 digits or so. The last man thought for a moment and said "5.0135E4", and the woman rolled her eyes and groaned.
Why ?

Ah, I made that too easy ... SEIOS (5.0135E4 upside down) is indeed portugese for breasts.
I claim bonus credit for posting the board's first bi-lateral symmetrical thinking problem though.

Re: Logic, IQ, and Lateral Thinking Problems.
A woman was at her mother's funeral when she spotted an attractive guy she did not know. She spoke with him and quickly fell in love, but did not have a chance to get his name and number before the funeral started. She looked for several days after but could not find him. Then she killed her sister.
Why did she kill her sister?

Alrighty , her sis was a narrsty bitch and was planning something dreadfull for all of humanity , and felines as well .
She had a bunker prepared and kidnapped the guy in order to repopulate Earth but she forgot to switch on the air conditioning and he died of dehydration .
Sis was distraught when she read other sisus diary and pushed her over the railing after she exited the bathroom after a shower since it was so hot in the bunker .

Roy has the right of this one.
"Mit der Dummheit kämpfen Götter selbst vergebens."
("Against stupidity, the gods themselves contend in vain.")
-- Friedrich Schiller (1759–1805)
Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

Ding! We have a winner!
The reasoning for those of you that missed it: If the man knew the woman's mother, he may have known the woman's sister.
