Flower

Noun

A fatally beautiful but foul-smelling plant that gives some people severe allergies. Often believed to give mushroom-eating Italians "Flower Power", the ability to launch fireballs with one's bare hands.

What happens when all the renewable energy runs out?
-- Victoria Ayling

English isn't much of a language for swearing. When I studied Ancient Greek I was delighted to discover a single word - Rhaphanidosthai - which translates roughly as "Be thou thrust up the fundament with a radish for adultery."

I know it's supposed to be "word" of the day (not "words), but people have been getting this wrong :furious: for way too long and it's time to set the record straight :drinking: (besides, we need to make up for a couple weeks of getting no word of the day!)

Hacker

Noun

A person who delights in learning about computers in excruciating detail for the purpose of "hacking" for pleasure, personal enrichment, showing off, and benefitting other hackers. While some do bad things with their knowledge, many do not and instead remain within the realm of what is legal.

Hacking

Verb

The act of using one's knowledge of computers to come up with something really cool and really clever, often as a means of showing off and/or creating something that may be of benefit for others.

Hacker Community

Noun

A global community of (mostly) peaceful hackers interested in freedom, self-enrichment, and sharing of knowledge for the benefit of everyone. The beliefs and communal experience of the Hacker Community is largely compatible with that of the Pastafarian Community :zen:

Cracker

Noun

A person who attempts to gain access to someone else's digital device(s), often illegally. Some are hackers, but many are not and instead leech off of the work of the hackers.
