I have a habit of asking this question when I make a new friend. Lots of times I learn a lot about them from their choice, other times I learn of a good book to read.
Mine is Atlas Shrugged, hands down.

I believe it's time for mankind to set aside the crutch of religion and embrace morality born of reason and truth. Those crutches have long since proven treacherous when the ground gets slippery.

"The only freedom deserving the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental and spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest." - John Stuart Mill

Yesterday, I would have named A Swiftly Tilting Planet by Madeleine L'Engle, as my favourite book, but after finishing An Acceptable Time, I'm starting to question how much I liked the series.
Still one of my favourites, though.
Other favourites of mine are the Harry Potter books, the His Dark Materials series, the Artemis Fowl series, the Inheritance series, and The Lord of The Rings books.
I cannot pick between them, they are all so good.

The thin line between genius and insanity is less of a border than a union.
"Science can purify religion from error and superstition; religion can purify science from idolatry and false absolutes. Each can draw the other into a wider world, a world in which both can flourish."
--Pope John Paul II
Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Oh my goodness I forgot my absolute favorite book of all time, The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins.
An absolute must read for anyone who likes biology, zoology, evolution, or thinks a material world can't be richly spiritual.
