I watched Phantom of the Opera again last night. I had never realized it was Gerard Butler. Whether or not he was actually singing, I still have a new found respect for him. It seems that he's just been doing chick flicks recently, but if he's done something like the Phantom before, perhaps he'll do so again.

You can never watch Dr. Horrible too many times.
(Well, unless you're going consecutively... Then it could hypothetically get old.)

That's a pretty big hypothetical though.

Ubi Dubium and I were very disappointed by the Phantom movie. I hope you enjoyed it.

I haven't seen any other versions of Phantom, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

Four Lions. It was interesting, especially as it humanised the suicide bombers.

I did feel a great temptation to slap the main character and his wife when they kept arguing which stupid thing was "god's plan" and just shout 'maybe there isn't one?' at them though.

Edit - I just realised what it reminded me of, a Tom Sharpe farce. There's the same sense of wanting a happy ending but realising the person in charge, while they don't dislike the characters, doesn't really care if they survive.

Now now, the 80's did give us some of our best movies and music. One terrible movie doesn't make the whole decade terrible, though it certainly seems that way while watching such horrible drek as Conan.

I watched the Wolfman last night. It was decent, but entirely predictable. Also, it was yet another werewolf movie with a stupid looking werewolf. To be honest, I don't think I've ever seen a good werewolf. They all look too human-like, and some even look like monkeys. I remember the ones in Underworld looked like baboons to me.

Ubi Dubium and I very much enjoyed watching Chocolat this evening. Best movie I've seen in a while.

The 80's produced movies like Ghostbusters, Back to the Future, and The Princess Bride.

Thus is your statement refuted. :lurk:

Nope, just me and my similarly inclined friends. I did suggest it as a Philosophy Movie Night to my Philosophy professor. We're watching Bladerunner on Tuesday as one of these such nights. My Psych class is just the Investigation of Biological Bases for Behavior and Cognition, so we probably won't get that fun. :P

...and Mannequin, Throw Momma From The Train, Cobra, Yentl, Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo, I remember, I was there. What about legwarmers? Bon Jovi. Shoulder pads. Dynasty. Ozone depletion because of the CFCs in all the hairspray cans. New Kids On The Block. Pop Tarts. The shellsuit. The Austin Montego. Ronald Reagan. Deregulation of the banking system that ended up with us bailing out the banks a couple of years ago.

The '80s sucked.

Okay, 4 things:
1 - you could compile a similar list for just about any decade
2 - What's wrong with Bon Jovi and Pop Tarts?
3 - The Austin Montego wasn't released here, so it doesn't count
4 - All of this was still much, much better than the '70's
