Now, I'm not actually that big a Mel Brooks fan, but I have an enormous weak spot for Spaceballs - quite possibly one of the funniest stupid movies ever made. There have been sequel rumors floating around forever but here's one straight from the man's mouth. As quoted in Aint it Cool Brooks is writing the sequel now and sees the best case scenario for release as "a week before the new Star Wars opens." Brooks has confirmed he'll be back as Yoghurt and I can only hope and pray that Rick Moranis returns as Dark Helmet. Moranis has been out of the game for a long time now and I miss him. This would be a prime opportunity for him to make a triumphant return ...

I actually brought Space Balls with me to work to watch tonight. (I work at front desk in Residence Halls over night on campus.) I hadn't heard of a sequel, but I would definitely go see it if it is made. And like singidunum, I am also waiting for Clerks II.

Weren't Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back basically sequels to Clerks? They had the same main characters.

Or are you wanting another 'guy working in a convenience store' style movie? Could you do that without recycling a lot of the gags?

Still I'll always remember the fate of those innocent contract workers on the 2nd death star.

I know the original topic is Spaceballs II, but we did go off about Clerks II, which is out now. I also didn't want to start a new thread. Has anyone else seen it yet? The new character, the Christian boy, amused me.

Clerks II was pretty dirty: there's "inter-species erotica" in it. I don't think it was as bad as Chasing Amy though, but be prepared. Of course, you'll see Jay's naked hiney in it too. I thought it [the film, not Jay's bum] was pretty funny though; it was a good sequel. The opening sequence was clever. There's a dance number, which was hilarious, and everything!

I had to go an hour out of town and pay $5.50 for a matinee to see the movie. (I can't believe they can charge that much for a movie shown at 1:00 pm! The movie theater starts night prices, over $8, at 3:00 pm!)
