Reading The Lightning Thief. VERY VERY GOOD. Also reading Brisingr. Also great.
Kaylee: Wash, tell me I'm pretty.
Wash: If I were unwed, I would take you up in a manly fashion.
Kaylee: 'Cause I'm pretty?
Wash: 'Cause your pretty.
(Wash and Kaylee, Firefly, Heart of Gold)

It's a broken hearts parade
And I'm putting my heart out on display
There's no masquerade
Just a funeral march for love today
The band strikes up and they're playing a song
Dressed in black, and we're singing along to the
Broken hearts parade
I've never been better then I am today

(Broken Hearts Parade - Good Charlotte)

Reading Seed to Harvest by Octavia E. Butler. (Actually, I'm rereading Wild Seed since this book contains the four novels Wild Seed, Mind of My Mind, Clay's Ark, and Patternmaster.)

No, as I forgot my pillow. I was reading it in a very comfortable camp chair around a very warm camp fire, surrounded by a very hungry cloud of sand flies.

O, to camp.

Mistborn: Brandon Sanderson.

Out-freaking-standing so far. I highly recommend it. This is the guy who's going to finish the Wheel of Time, so I had to check him out.
I believe it's time for mankind to set aside the crutch of religion and embrace morality born of reason and truth. Those crutches have long since proven treacherous when the ground gets slippery.

Just finished The God Delusion. I rather enjoyed it, especially the last few chapters.

Our little library also has God is Not Great: How Religion Poisons Everything by Hitchens.....I was wondering if anyone has any opinions on that book. The reviews didn't look too great.
-Stop using Jesus as an excuse for being a narrow minded bigot.
-Music was her life, the lyrics were her story.
-Be careful what you say, it may remind me of a song that needs to be sung.
-GOT JESUS? I thought you had him....shit!
-Why do people with closed minds always open their mouths?
-My pit bull is my co-pilot.
-To err is human; to ARRGGHHH is pirate!
-Why do we kill people who kill people to show people that killing people is wrong?
-Well behaved women rarely make history.
-Laughter: When a smile has an orgasm
-I'm not so good at the advice; can I interest you in a sarcastic comment?

I really liked parts of it. Other parts bored the living shit out of me. Though, now that I've gotten a lot more interested in my self-righteous atheism, I think I might like to re-read God is Not Great.
“We are often hesitant to look at other faiths or to examine our own critically because we feel that, in doing so, we are being disloyal to our own deeply felt convictions. ... And yet our beliefs are not worth very much if they cannot stand up to any scrutiny.” -- James Livingston.

I would be highly skeptical of a book that suggests ANYTHING does something ALWAYS, or in this case, poisons EVERYTHING.

For example: religion did not poison my dinner tonight. It didn't interfere with my subway ride. It didn't disrupt my day at all. It was an entirely religious-free day for me.
True terror lies in the futility of human existence.

Malcolm Reynolds is my co-pilot.

"The only freedom deserving the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental and spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest." - John Stuart Mill

At the moment I am reading the Complete Book of Swords by Fred Saberhagen. I would like to read the God Delusion again, but I made the mistake of lending it out to a coworker, and now I will never see him again. Dammit.
If only Wash were a magical zombie like Jesus. I miss him. Now who will pilot my spaceship?
"Life IS pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."
Alex Trebek: Oh good. Mr. Connery wants to say something.
Sean Connery: I've thought of some more foreign ladies I snogged.
