Re: Earworms!
The last night of my cruise I got drunk and sang Africa at karaoke. It's now three days later, and the song is still bouncing around between my ears.
If only Wash were a magical zombie like Jesus. I miss him. Now who will pilot my spaceship?

Sean Connery: I've thought of some more foreign ladies I snogged.

I see that picture all the time, and I still don't know if that's really somebody's head exploding, or if it's just goofy special effects.
If it's really someone's head exploding, maybe it's not quite appropriate for hotlinking on the forums.

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye.
Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess,
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down.
I am the eggman, they are the eggmen.
I am the walrus, goo goo g'joob.
As much as I love the song, it just can't stay in my head all day.

Re: Earworms!
"I Am The Walrus" is a wonderful song, but it's distinctly uncatchy. It has no hooks. Occasionally I'll chant "Oompah, oompah, stick it up yer jumpah" a few times, but I quickly lose interest.

I wish I had that problem. It just sticks in my head. Makes listening in lectures very difficult. But so does the monotony of the lecturers voice.

Ah, so when you said "it just can't stay in my head all day" you meant it DOES stay in your head all day, even though it is to your detriment and you therefore need to make it leave, not that it is UNABLE to stay in your head.
I assumed you were still on the subject of songs that are good for GETTING RID OF earworms that has been discussed in the recent posts. My bad.

Nice try!
I have Castle Walls playing (Styx, from Grand Illusion album) as fortification. Your catchy Beatles tune cannot defeat me:
"Once in a dream, far beyond these castle walls, down near the bay where the moonlit water falls
I stood alone, while the minstrel sang his song, so afraid I'd lost my soul
There in the fog, his song kept calling me, leading me on with its haunting melody
Deep in my heart a voice kept echoing. I knew I'd soon be wandering...
Far beyond these castle walls, where the distant harbor meets the sky
There the battle raged like hell and every dove had lost its will to fly
Far beyond these castle walls, where I thought I heard Tiresias say
Life is never what it seems, and every man must meet his destiny..."

In case you didn't realize it, I DO have a sense of humor. How about you?

Re: Earworms!
I'll see your Castle Walls (well played, sir, well played!) and raise you...
Through the woodland, through the valley
Comes a horseman wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be
He is wild but he is mellow
He is strong but he is weak
He is cruel but he is gentle
He is wise but he is meek
Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a battered book into his hand
Standing like a prophet bold
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
'Til he can shout no more
I have come o'er moor and mountain
Like the hawk upon the wing
I was once a shining knight
Who was the guardian of a king
I have searched the whole world over
Looking for a place to sleep
I have seen the strong survive
And I have seen the lean grow weak
See the children of the earth
Who wake to find the table bare
See the gentry in the country
Riding off to take the air
Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a rusty sword into his hand
Then striking up a knightly pose
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
'Til he can shout no more
See the jailer with his key
Who locks away all trace of sin
See the judge upon the bench
Who tries the case as best he can
See the wise and wicked ones
Who feed upon life's sacred fire
See the soldier with his gun
Who must be dead to be admired
See the man who tips the needle
See the man who buys and sells
See the man who puts the collar
On the ones who dare not tell
See the drunkard in the tavern
Stemming gold to make ends meet
See the youth in ghetto black
Condemned to life upon the street
Reaching for his saddlebag
He takes a tarnished cross into his hand
Then standing like a preacher now
He shouts across the ocean to the shore
Then in a blaze of tangled hooves
He gallops off across the dusty plain
In vain to search again
Where no one will hear
Through the woodland, through the valley
Comes a horseman wild and free
Tilting at the windmills passing
Who can the brave young horseman be
He is wild but he is mellow
He is strong but he is weak

Re: Earworms!
Nice one! Gordon did have a particular talent for both telling a meaningful story and making it a catchy tune. Perfect earworms like Sundown, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, If You Could Read My Mind, etc. I played a lot of his stuff when I was learning guitar and keyboard, about a million years ago when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.
( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YclWBRtYpKU for those who haven't heard this one.)
I have to admit, though, that these days my taste runs to a kind of transformation-fusion anthem style like the 1995 Page & Plant "Unledded" stuff, or even some of Vanessa Mae's numbers -- existential, haunting, "untraditional" yet also thunderous and provocative. Other times, I just want to see fiendish and soulful mastery embodied plain on:

(note: you have to flip the R-L channels or put headphones on reverse, etc to hear this as it is shown from camera pov)
This one won't just infect your ears if you have them, but your very soul...

^ I like that; not sure it would be an earworm for me, though.
This is more insidious. (There's also live version, but the sound is off.)
I'm a Ren-friendly kind of girl, but was grieved to see Ritchie in tights on Shadow of the Moon. Faith, 'twas not a comely look for him.

The GF had "Springtime for Hitler" stuck in her head at work today. That is one you do not want to start singing out loud.
