Roy Hunter wrote:The problem with playing music by people who can really write is that you need to be able to really play, otherwise you just look like a tit.
Hence why I avoid karaoke unless really drunk (my rendition of Whole Lotta Love a couple of years ago sounded like a Whole Lotta Felgercarb*). I used to sing in my local church choir. My voice ain't what it used to be

I put on Gods of the Earth by The Sword a minute ago. Any band with a song entitled Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians is win in my book

*Ten points if you guess the reference.

IM The Supevisor - Infected Mushroom
Currently on the first track/title track. The best song is Cities of the Future, though.

Accelerate - R.E.M.
Title track.
This is a decent album, but it doesn't really do much for me. The songs are kind of samey, so one might as well just pick one or two songs to actually listen to. The exception is "I'm Gonna DJ." Quality song.

Re: Watcha listenin' to?
I was listening to my blues playlist on my iPod today, and it got me thinking: shouldn't the blues be making a resurgence right now? Unemployment and underemployment are sky-high, everyone's investments and finances are in ruins, Washington can't get anything done, we're no longer the big cheese of international relations. This should be the perfect breeding grounds for the comeback of the blues! And real, gritty, one guy with an acoustic guitar blues. Not this polished, upper middle class Kenny Wayne Shepherd crap.

Re: Watcha listenin' to?
Nah, the genre is already there. I mean, perhaps within people who are still making modern blues, it might get more bluesy, or something, thanks to those affected by the current economic downturn. But I wouldn't think in the mainstream.
But the whole soul-crushing depression thing isn't really pervading all of America. The zeitgeist doesn't seem concerned in that way about it all.
There probably are interesting trends to notice of songs made in 2007, and then ones in later '08 and '09. Or just before and after the bubble burst. At least, lyrically in certain genres.
I'm listening to the latest dance track from my friend. He's trying out youtube, it seems, so he could use all the views/votes he can get. It's called Descent.

You can't Polka to that!!
Not really into that type of music, but it wasn't half bad except for the "farting" type sounds.

Re: Watcha listenin' to?
I got out the Orange Goblin today. They're a London band with roots in Black Sabbath, Stoner/Doom Rock and the Blues. They have some amazing songs. They're electrifying live. My first time was by accident when me and a friend went to a random gig in a small pub that Total Rock used to broadcast from. Also playing at the gig were Blaze. I fell over in the mosh pit lol, but got to have a chat with Krusher!
First was their Coup de Grace album with the excellent song Red Web (the intro's for qwerty). Then the album Frequencies from Planet Ten with the songs Saruman's Wish, Song of the Purple Mushroom Fish, Lothlorien and the amazing Star Shaped Cloud (this album is an instant win for the LotR references!). Last but not least was the album Time Travelling Blues with The Man who Invented Time and my personal favourite off the album, Time Travelling Blues.
Enjoy
EDIT: I tried your friend's dance music. Unfortunately i'm not really a dance fan, sorry
, but that track wasn't too bad. I rated, nonetheless. I hope his DJ career takes off and he does well.
