I don't know what they call ramen in the U.K., but in Australia, it's often referred to as two minute noodles. the most popular being Maggi (sounds a bit like Magi, the xian three wise men, lol).

Hey ZanK !

Mr Noodle is a cheap inferior ramen , the best by far is Ichiban , ye can find it in oriental markets , buy it by the box of sixteen or so ( best economics ), they cost more than the others but are well worth it . Ramen :worship:

I like the raw noodles on top of a salad with spinach and a vinegarette dressing. I don't use the flavor pack for that, though.

Dropping a raw egg in the water is awesome, and filling. I also like to fry the egg the same way I do when I make fried rice and throw it in the noodles. I've recently found a recipe for beer battered pan fried ramen that I'll probably try because, well, three of my favorite things are beer, ramen, and fried food.

There are many different kinds of ramen. The most common one you see if the little packet of noodles with a tiny flavoring. If you have larger asian communities, there is a wider variety of ramen that have vegetables and such. You should have some ramen in your house at all times.

I am confused about ramen, is it some special type of noodle i need to buy, or is it a way of cooking ordinary noodles, and if so, how do i do it?

"Ramen" is instant noodles by definition. There is no high-end ramen cuisine. It is made at plants that package it in plastic. I don't imagine that you can easily make the stuff at home, but you can look it up.
