Ham votes Nay because she likes being contrary
That, and she feels that the color balance is off. The harsh clash of black, red, and yellow makes it seem a little foreboding, not at all the warm-hearted invitation that befits our intentions.. Furthurmore, the diminished size of the picture makes the caption quite difficult to read. At very least, she would push for consistency by coloring the white spaces in the noodley edge-work.
My suggestion would be to shrink the border base pieces and reassemble them with more links to make a thinner border--allowing for more usable space in the center. The black I would change to white, red, or a nice meatball brown that is easier on the eyes.

Maybe "A Holy Book", not "The Holy Book". Otherwise, I like Ham Nox's suggestion.

Re: Artwork for the Loose Canon
Definitely in favor of "A Holy Book." Gotta be clear on the pluralism.
Making the borders smaller would definitely help. I feel like it would be better if it all just fit on top of the original picture, but with the words on it already, that doesn't work. I wonder how hard it would be to extend the background blue and yellow beams from the FSM, and the clouds at the bottom as well, so that they go behind teh border, in place of the black.
Ultimately though, I'll probably just print out my copy on paper, and skip a fancy cover. I'll just have
"The Loose Canon. A Really Important Collection of Words. A Holy Book of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. First Edition"
as the title page. Formatted a bit, but very plain.

OK, taking into account what people have suggested, here is what I have so far. I haven't added the wording yet.
I know it is small - it is much bigger on my computer but this size fits on the screen:

Re: Artwork for the Loose Canon
That grey area at the bottom will get the same wording from the previous version, yes? If so, I like this one.

Same wording (except 'A Holy Book' etc. instead of 'The Holy Book' etc.). Would you like the same lettering as well? Or a different font?

Re: Artwork for the Loose Canon
I like the font, but I think the color of the outline around the letters may have to change, so that they will show up against the gray background.

With the words. I decided against making them stand out too much, because I wanted the eye to be drawn to the title.

Re: Artwork for the Loose Canon
The yellow with red outline against the gray makes my old eyes hurt when I try to read it. Could we see it in a different color choice or two?

Re: Artwork for the Loose Canon
Yeah, I might change the outline to black. Or maybe change the fill to a meatball brown? We certainly have enough yellow.

Re: Artwork for the Loose Canon
The above has a yellow noodley border with red and yellow lettering.
I have done four more colour-ways.
1. Yellow noodley border with black and noodle-coloured lettering.

2. Noodle-coloured noodley border with red and yellow lettering.

3. Noodle-coloured noodley border with black and noodle-coloured lettering.

4. Noodle-coloured noodley border with meatball-brown lettering.

Re: Artwork for the Loose Canon
I like the border either way, either noodly or yellow looks ok.
Of the color alternatives on the text, I prefer the legibility of the meatball brown.
