DanWiley raised this in another thread.

I'm a designer. I understand wheels. Wheels are the best means of moving a body along the surface of the planet. If wheels wont do then use caterpillar tracks. Never put legs on a vehicle. Too complicated, too dificults to maintain, too much effort spent coordinating them. Any designer who is intelligent will avoid legs at all costs.

Only a really unintelligent designer would use legs for transportation.

Now if you apply this blindingly obvious fact to the natural world the conclusion is clear. Look for yourself, which of these seems most likely:
