Venganza Banned by Websense!

Postby nacho » Fri Mar 30, 2007 8:41 pm

Recently, Websense added Venganza.org to their ban list under "Message Boards and Clubs". What the hell is that BS? That has religious censorship written all over it. Just to be sure, I checked out a bunch of catholic websites, and sure enough, none of them were blocked. In fact, after searching for Catholicism on Google, nothing on the first page was blocked! No Christian chat rooms or message boards were inaccessible. Apparently Christianity is a religion, while we're just a "club".

It is an outrage, I say!

It's wrong that they did that, but i just read Websense's wikipedia page and it looks like they block almost everything. But viva the FSM :fsm_float:

They probably got some complaint from a ticked off parent who has problems with their child having access, while at school, to any "religion" other than their prescibed one.

I'm not sure I would consider this site appropriate to access in schools that teach minors.

We have very lax rules concerning the use of language and cursing, we cover a wide variety of topics, many of which parents would consider inappropriate for their kids, and we conform to COPPA restrictions that require members 13 or under get permission to register. I'd rather not have to deal with the backlash that would be inevitable if a bunch of kids were spending there school time here rather than on actual schoolwork.
True terror lies in the futility of human existence.

Malcolm Reynolds is my co-pilot.

"The only freedom deserving the name, is that of pursuing our own good in our own way, so long as we do not attempt to deprive others of theirs, or impede their efforts to obtain it. Each is the proper guardian of his own health, whether bodily, or mental and spiritual. Mankind are greater gainers by suffering each other to live as seems good to themselves, than by compelling each to live as seems good to the rest." - John Stuart Mill

I just sent the following email to websense:

"I am a student at Sherman High School. I recently noted that the following site is blocked under the category message boards and clubs "venganza.org".

I feel duty-bound to inform you that the site is a religious institution, and the only religious institution blocked under your policies.

I hope you will see to it that this site is accessible via quota time like all of the other religious sites you let fly.

Thanks,

Allen Flanders"

I post at school...I'm 14...but i only do it when we are allowed free PC time...

This site ought to be blocked, due to the language...

But as it isn't REALLY a religous site, but a PROTEST site, that argument lacks credibilty

Well, it is a protest site in the form of a religion.

And if you heard some of my teachers talking, you would have a new definition of bad language

Dobtful...you don't know me...There are only 2 words I won't say.

...Cap, Earth, and I have explained this before...

We can't be a real religion, because our "prophet" has already said that this is fake...

We are protesting the teaching of intelligent design in science classrooms.

By seriously claiming to worship the FSM, we are defeating the purpose of FSism...

Sheesh
