FSM heaven's gifts go to all people, no matter how they died. And I'd have to say stupid, in most cases. Of course, if one were to end up in a Shaivo-like situation, the answer is suicide (which is why everyone should have a living will).

but then the question becomes which causes more harm, death by a bottle of pills or a slow death by cancer.

personally, suicide is all about context. was the people that jumped out of the world trade centers doind a bad thing? now certainly if you want to comit suicide, you should do it in such a way as you don't harm some one else in the proccess. but by yourself, i can't say much about somebody killing themselves without more info.

I'm indifferent on the case.
But I know that the FSM does not conduct me to commit suicide, but the christian "beliefs" work quite well to drive me to dispair.

The morality of suicide hinges upon the circumstances that bring about said suicide. There need be mitigating conditions that outweight the desire to live.

When suicide is permissible: cases of terminal disease, cases of impending death by other means, cases of hitting rock bottom and having no one for whom to provide.

When suicide is misguided and incorrect: cases of whiny, attention-whore teenagers; cases of needing to provide for others (which may be otherwise changed by organizing some way to provide for said others); etc.

But Pastafarianism doesn't advocate either. The flimsy moral standards more than take care of that.

Suicide is almost always worst than whatever alternatives there are to it. There's no turning back from sucide and the aftermath on one's family is devestating.
