Re: UK: Pastafarianism as a religion

I am indeed trying to get us accepted as a religion in the UK, mostly to see if it vcan be done, and for advertising, lol - I have been prodding at the charities commission paperwork every so often, but it's a real toughie (and I'm currently juggling the Samaritan's paperwork). With regards to tax r...

Cardinal, thank you. I think it is easy to get distracted when there's so much there.

Is it Piracy? Political goals of FSMism: opinions, please!

I'm currently arguing with some folks that my driver's license "stunt" is an attempt to further the previous work of others for a) religious acceptance and b) to clarify that religions DO get exceptions that other groups and people do not. Drawing attention to the fact that religions do ge...

Re: UK: Pastafarianism as a religion

Not such a problem for Pastafarianism - I've always felt we're very open about our position and intentions. :) I keep having a look over the Charities Commission stuff, but I often find myself daunted by it - I'm not sure where to focus the idea of "public good" because Pastafarianism does...

Re: UK: Pastafarianism as a religion

Pete - I believe so. I think I may be the first woman, too. Cardinal - the issue with belief not being necessary has always thrown others somewhat. I'm amused that our position has now been confirmed by the Scientologists. There's a delicious irony in there somewhere. DavidH - Niko Alm was at it for...

UK: Pastafarianism as a religion

Well, I stumbled across an old article - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/10510301/Scientology-is-a-religion-rules-Supreme-Court.html The summary is that five supreme court judges effectively changed the definition of religion. Lord Toulson, giving the judgement, wrote that "religion sh...

Re: Breakaway Movements?

It would be a bit weird, having "sects". There's not really much point in them, what with pasta coming in all sorts of shapes as it is. Moreover, look how well it works for other religions - all that happens is you get a whole bunch of people giving it the "No True Scotsman" fall...

I find the $1.7 million raised for charitable causes through Kiva by CoFSM tends to lend validity!

Re: Loose Canon Submissions - Prayer Book

A quick blessing I use often, typed by my own fair fingers: I hope that you can accept other people for who they are. I pray that given time and warmth, you can become flexible like the spaghetti, yet, like the spaghetti, still retain the full essence of what you are. You will be able to happily min...

Petitioning Congress for Fridays!

Gilbert Az. has set up a petition to have Friday listed as a recognized holiday for the Church of the FSM. https://www.change.org/petitions/congress-list-friday-as-a-recognized-holiday-for-the-church-of-the-fsm I think it's a grand idea, and have signed it myself, along with several of us from Googl...
